Herpes is caused by the HSV-1 and HSV-2 pathogen. The first commonly results into cold sores or oral herpes the second is the common cause for genital herpes. Herpes transmission happens principally thru direct contact with sores the illness causes or through sexual realtions with an infected person.
The pathogen sometimes accesses the body through broken skin or mucous surface like those found in the mouth and genital area. The pathogen is carried by body liquids like spit, semen, vaginal discharges and the fluids that come out of the blisters which herpes develops. Once in contact with mucosal surfaces or skin injuries the virus begins to copy. It is then carried into the nerve cells where it remains latent for some time.
During this latent period the chances of herpes transmission is less. It should be recollected however, that it is during this latent period a process called "shedding" may occur and the chance of transmission increases. Viral losing occurs when the pathogen "sheds" the cell in which it is propagating itself. During shedding, the indications of herpes may not be plain but an individual may still become infected through the exchange of body fluids with somebody suffering from the illness.
There are also cases in which the person with herpes is asymptomatic meaning the indicators of herpes the person suffers is so mild so that he or she does not recognize that he or she is infected.
Mothers could also pass on the illness to their children during child birth. A newborn infant's immune system is not that developed and he or she may contract the illness as he passes thru passes through the birth canal of the mummy and makes contact with the herpes sores present in her reproductive organs. Doctors often conduct tests on the pregnant mother to make sure that she has not contracted the disease. Should herpes be revealed to be present in the mummy, the baby is usually delivered through caesarian section in order to ensure that the child doesn't come get contaminated.
The minor cares we take will save us a lot of grief that will come with contracting which has no cure.
